St.Vincent and the Grenadines
'Jewel of the Caribbean'
St. Vincent and the Grenadines was first settled around 5000 BC. It's first settlers were from the peaceful tribes Ciboney and then by the Arawaks. Soon a war-like tribe called the Caribs followed. In 1675, a Dutch slave ship was wrecked off the shore of Bequia, an island belonging to St. Vincent. That slave ship brought the first Africans to St. Vincent who inter married to create Black Caribs whose descendants still live there today. Today, St. Vincent and the Grenadines is an independent democracy and is apart of the British Commonwealth.
